Thanks ,Roger, for keeping us informed w/ good news and the infrequent hopelessness of a loss of life of a little hawk ,created and hatched to soar the skies and bring us more happiness w/ a nest and family of his own in a later year.
]]>Washington Square Park uses a combination of snap traps and dry ice to smother rats in their burrows. Adult Hawks are absolutely susceptible to rodenticide. It is a little bit of comfort that the WSP adults eat a lot of pigeons and also vermin from WSP. But they do eat rats outside the park on occasion.
]]>So sad. What are the alternatives to rodenticide? Are adults susceptible, too? I don’t live in the city. (And we use a cat.)
]]>There isn’t rodenticide set out in the parks when Hawks are nesting but neighboring buildings continue to use it.
]]>Thanks for your support, Shelly.
]]>It’s heartbreaking and terrible. And totally avoidable which is all the more frustrating.
