Central park birdies walk on January 11, 2012

It was a gray day and I only half expected to see colorful birds during my brief walk. I guess I was trying to manage expectations. I was happy to see more than I anticipated.

A fair cardinal lass:

Tufted titmouse:

Mighty-looking yet still retaining an adorable face:

Snacky:

Different tree and different lighting made for an interesting contrast. This bird worked very hard to crack open the shell that’s still between his feet. He’d raise it up in his beak and strike it against the branch a few times until he could get to the tasty bits:

Cardinal:

A sleepy mallard keeping an eye on me. The sound of my camera shutter made him snap his eye open:

He started and checked me out for a minute:

Assured I was not a threat, he tucked in again:
