Red-tailed Hawk landing on nest, Bobst Library, NYU, New York City

[Updated with video] 3rd egg for the Washington Square Park Hawks – March 23rd, 2020

I had just tuned in to the nest cam at 10:59AM this morning to catch Sadie already in mid egg-laying. I captured video of the laying which I’ll try to post later tonight.

The first egg was laid on March 17th and the second egg was laid on March 20th. This year was slightly unusual in that it was 3 full days between each egg laying whereas in past years Sadie would typically lay an egg a day or two apart.

In the meantime, here is a shot of the three eggs right before Sadie settled down to incubate them:

Update: The nest cam footage I compiled is in the video below. You see that she is in labor not long before her new egg appears. Exhausted, she falls asleep. She is then awakened and stands to reveal all three of her eggs.

  1. How wonderfully reassuring, Roger_Paw.
Thank you for giving us this sense of peace and continuity during these unsettling time, by posting the
    “Travels of our Hawks”
Thank you , Sadie and Juno.

  2. Wondering if age is slowing her down? Or perhaps lack of prey? Do you have video of her eating enough prior to egg laying/incubation to compare with past years? And – do we know how old she is?

  3. Roger_Paw, do the hawks live on the NYU Bobst library ledge year round? If not, can’t that wall get cleaned?
