Hot and hazy few seconds with one Hawk – June 29th, 2012

Because of the oppressive heat and humidity this second day of our latest heat wave in New York, I could only bear being in Washington Square Park for about half an hour. I checked as much of the park and surrounding buildings as I could before I gave up and went home.

The Hawks had been accounted for earlier in the day but were keeping a low profile when I was in the park. They were certainly being smarter than me and were probably in a cooler spot than I was.

The only time I saw a Hawk was when I spotted Bobby for a few seconds as he flew east to west. He disappeared behind a building. I looked for him but never saw him again.


Fledgling’s dinner, hunts, and Bobby’s perches – June 28th, 2012

Our new heat wave has arrived. We had a high of about 88 degrees which doesn’t sound so bad except there was uncomfortable humidity and smog and general city dust and grit to add to the mix. The Hawks were obviously uncomfortable as well as evidenced by their panting and water drinking. However, they carried on as they had to regardless.
