Banded fledgling and Bobby in the park – August 17th, 2013

A fellow loyal Hawk-watcher informed me that the banded fledgling “NJ 30” and Bobby Hawk were in Washington Square Park this morning.

Bobby captured and began to eat a pigeon. The banded fledgling soon dove at Bobby and knocked him off his branch and took the pigeon to eat for itself on a nearby roof top.

This was a pretty fascinating turn of events since the fledgling was acting like Bobby’s last two seasons’ kids by boldly bossing him around and stealing his meal (rather than being summarily run out of the park). I’m not suggesting the fledgling is one of Bobby and Rosie’s offspring but it sure makes one wonder!

Banded fledgling update

A friend recently texted me with the update that the banded fledgling was “banded at Teterboro airport on July 13th, and released in Central NJ”.

I’m really glad I got the text and that the mystery has been solved because I have to admit I kept forgetting to follow up on that and meant to get to it later today or tomorrow. 🙂
