Red-tailed Hawk landing on nest, Bobst Library, NYU, New York City

Bobby resting atop One Fifth Avenue – October 31st, 2014

A fellow Hawk-watcher saw one of the Washington Square Park Red-tailed Hawks in the park about an hour before I arrived. My same friend alerted me to another raptor seated a block south of the park.

It looked like a Cooper’s Hawk:

I’d seen a Cooper’s Hawk on that NYU apartment complex several times over the last several months.

Bobby was on One Fifth Avenue when I reached the park:

A few Kinglets were flying around the trees in front of us:

Yellow-rumped Warblers were also flitting about:

Bobby moved from one ledge to the other after an hour and fifteen minutes:

He flew off that ledge and to the one further north after another 15 minutes:

He then flew above us, heading eastward, after exactly another 15 minutes.

We lost him at that point. We had been watching him together for an hour and forty five minutes.

We then saw a Peregrine Falcon circle a block east of the park for several seconds before it too disappeared.

The juvenile Hawk from three days ago wasn’t seen during our visit.
