A fellow Hawk-watcher spent most of the day in and around Washington Square Park in the hopes of spotting the female Red-tailed Hawk that was released in the park yesterday and to see if she was getting along with Bobby. I was in the park for two hours.
Between the two of us I think we missed maybe three hours of daylight and neither of us saw the female Red-tail. I’m not saying she wasn’t around but we weren’t fortunate to see her if she was.
We did see Bobby, a Cooper’s Hawk flying around the southern area of the park, and a Peregrine Falcon getting into three fights with Bobby over the course of my two hour visit.
Bobby was on the One Fifth Avenue building when I arrived:

A Red-bellied Woodpecker was in a tree near me at one point:

They flew around the park together for a couple of minutes (with the Falcon dive-bombing Bobby) before the Falcon flew southward and out of the park again.
Bobby then perched on NYU’s Education Building along the eastern side of the park:
I didn’t realize it at first but Bobby had a perfect view of the Peregrine Falcon who was now perched a block south of the park:
They watched each other for fourteen minutes until the Falcon flew to Bobby and fought him again.
It was all over in a few seconds. Bobby returned to One Fifth Avenue:

A fellow Hawk-watcher reported seeing Bobby hunting then in his evening roost (the Red Roost Inn) in the early evening.
