Red-tailed Hawk landing on nest, Bobst Library, NYU, New York City

Bobby grabs a squirrel meal – May 3rd, 2017

There was a lot of Washington Square Park Hawk action during the hour and a half I was in the park today.

I immediately saw Bobby land on an eastern building along the park when I arrived.

He flew into the trees and soon grabbed a small squirrel from a tree hole nest/hideout.

He hopscotched to a few different trees with his catch and dispatched it before bringing it to the nest for his hatchling and mama Sadie.

He then flew to the Judson Memorial Church cross before flying northeast out of the park.

It was a cool but beautiful day and I got to see a busy Northern Waterthrush too.

I left the park soon after Bobby returned to the grounds and his One Fifth Avenue Perch.
