Red-tailed Hawk landing on nest, Bobst Library, NYU, New York City

Bobby sits guard for hours – June 12th, 2017

It was quite hot in Washington Square Park today (94 degrees) so I only spent 2 1/2 hours’ worth of Hawking.

Bobby sat guard on the Education Building flag pole (the one closest to the nest) almost the whole time.

The fledgling was likely hiding out/napping in the shade because a fellow Hawk-watcher and I looked for her much but didn’t see her once.

She was seen flying strongly from one building to another and back in one swoop last night so I was not worried about her capabilities but it would have been lovely to see her.

Stretch:

Being followed by a Kestrel toward the end of my visit:

He led the little raptor southeast from the park before I left for the day.
