The Red-tailed Hawks of Washington Square Park, NYC… mostly
Below is video footage I took when visiting Bobby and Rosie in Washington Square Park on March 9th and 11th. I used a handheld point-and-shoot I happened to have on me at the time.
In the footage you see Bobby twigging (gathering material for the nest), going to the nest, mating with Rosie on a rooftop terrace on the 11th, and Rosie moving from the terrace to the Judson Memorial Church cross.
A fellow Hawk-watcher who was in Washington Square Park before I arrived had sent me news of Bobby and Rosie’s general whereabouts so finding them was not too difficult thankfully.
I first spotted Bobby on one of the Hawks’ regular perches on West 3rd Street and LaGuardia Place. They were a block south of the park. The Bobst Library (the location of their nest) is at the corner of 4th Street and LaGuardia Place.

A Cooper’s Hawk which has become a regular along East 3rd Street NYU housing (a block south of the park):
