Red-tailed Hawk landing on nest, Bobst Library, NYU, New York City

Restful parents, hop-flappy baby – June 8th, 2015

It looked like all the Washington Square Park Red-tailed Hawks had recently eaten and were digesting, mostly resting, during my visit today.

It’s difficult to tell but there was a Finch pair sitting between the two Hawks:

The Finches flew around from perch to perch but stayed close to the Hawks. Finches are often flying about or sitting near the Hawks when they are on Silver (I’ve noticed this occurring for years). They don’t dive-bomb the Hawks or seem to squawk much at them.

There’s a lot of poop on the sidewalk under the nest. It’s a no-go zone until the babies fledge!
