Hawk lovebirds and hunting Cooper’s Hawk – February 14th, 2019

Both Washington Square Park Red-tailed Hawks Bobby and Sadie sat close together atop the Con Edison tower on this Valentine’s Day:

They stayed together on the building the whole hour I spent in the park.

Pigeons in the park square gathered around their favorite feeder.

The pigeon I’ve nicknamed “Dover” mingled with the rest of the group:

A Cooper’s Hawk hunted the pigeons that were perched atop the park arch:

The pigeons gathered into tight groups to avoid being singled out:

The Cooper’s Hawk gave up hunting and flew southeast out of the park.

I was able to identify it as the same Hawk I saw on January 23rd thanks to the feather gap in its left wing:

I saw one of the Red-tailed Hawks circling over Broadway a few minutes after I had left the park.
