A squirrel burying a peanut in Washington Square Park:
I searched in and around the park for a couple of hours for the resident Red-tailed Hawks but didn’t see them. One of the pigeon flocks got pretty nervous at one stage but I didn’t see what spooked them:
However I did spot a juvenile Red-tailed Hawk flying kind of low just west of 6th Avenue.
It scared up a pigeon flock that resides on an apartment building between 6th and 7th Avenues:
The juvenile Hawk reappeared and circled quickly by the pigeons:
This Hawk would circle by the pigeons then retreat toward the direction of the park. It’d then return to the flock, stir them up, then retreat again.
It may have been toying with the pigeons because it had a very full crop so it probably wasn’t hungry:
This made my day, especially the little squirrel.
That squirrel later dug up a different nut and brought it to a tree to eat. I suppose it preferred an ‘aged’ nut rather than a fresh peanut at the moment lol.
Like wine!
The nut must have had a rich, earthy bouquet. 🙂
