Bobby defends his turf, no sightings of the female Hawk – January 14th, 2015

A fellow Hawk-watcher spent most of the day in and around Washington Square Park in the hopes of spotting the female Red-tailed Hawk that was released in the park yesterday and to see if she was getting along with Bobby. I was in the park for two hours.

He had to deal with a dive-bombing Peregrine Falcon throughout my visit. The Falcon made a couple of close passes at him when he was on the Judson Memorial Church cross, several dive-bombs when Bobby was perched on NYU’s Kimmel Center building, and a couple of dive-bombs when he was flying above the park square.

His day came to a quiet close though and he was able to rest in a tree then disappear deeper into the park trees at roosting time.

Neighborhood Peregrine Falcon, Bobby at dusk – November 12th, 2014

The one I’d been watching from my kitchen window doesn’t seem to like hanging out there anymore unfortunately.

The Peregrine I saw today could have been the same bird but there was no surefire way to know. It was seated on a building at the corner of 2nd Avenue and 1st Street:
