The Red-tailed Hawks of Washington Square Park, NYC… mostly
I just read the update on Dora’s condition in this post on Goggla’s blog.
It appears Dora will not be released back to Tompkins Square any time soon. This is disheartening news as I was so looking forward to see if she would regain her territory and rear a springtime brood with Christo this year.
All the best to Dora and to WINORR (Wildlife in Need of Rescue and Rehabilitation) for taking such good care of her.
The Washington Square Park Red-tailed Hawk baby is looking more grown up each day.
It continues to mostly jump flap halfway across the ledge rather than all the way across the ledge while its wings’ feathers fill out.
Delightful new view:
I was walking about the Lower East Side of Manhattan this morning when I spotted one of the Tompkins Square Park Hawks hunting pigeons. I followed it as it flew around the few blocks near Katz’s Deli.
It landed on an apartment building between 1st Avenue and Avenue A:
