Fledgling’s contentment north of the park – July 30th, 2018

I finally saw one of the Washington Square Park Red-tailed Hawk fledglings today. The last time I saw a fledgling was on July 24th. The fledgling I saw today was the same Hawk as on that day.

A fellow Hawk-watcher saw a fledgling and adult Hawk at the east side of the park earlier today. My hour-long search of the park was a bust so I was glad to find Hawks just a few blocks north.

The youngster was sitting on scaffolding at 5th Avenue and 12th Street, across the street from the building I saw it on on the 24th (the Cardozo Law School building):

It would sit and relax with its foot up but still carrying on with its cries:

Even though it would cry it seemed content overall. I then saw a second Hawk 8 minutes later as it flew off the side of Cardozo Law School building. I had no idea it was sitting there all along!

I spent the next 45 minutes circling the block of buildings in hopes of seeing where the Hawks landed but never saw them again but that was fine; it was great to see two Hawks. I searched Washington Square Park proper again but didn’t see Hawks there.
