Two outings without Washington Square Hawks – July 29th, 2018

I spent a while on Thursday the 26th and also today searching for the Washington Square Park Red-tailed Hawks. I saw neither feather nor talon each day.

A fellow Hawk-watcher saw a fledgling for a little while yesterday which was good news. I hadn’t seen a fledgling since the 24th.

I wasn’t too shocked not to see any Hawks today. The fledglings have been exploring further and further from the park. And the adult Hawks take extended breaks from the park every summer after their ‘child-rearing’ duties are concluded. But I admit it was disappointing to not see any sign of the Hawks after searching more of the area than I usually do.

I did see sparrows briefly fight for a divot at one of the dust bath spots:
