Hawks in two parks, busy squirrels – March 8th, 2019

The Washington Square Park Hawks Bobby and Sadie were both in the park when I arrived today.

Bobby would watch over the park then eat on and off:

Sadie was seated on one of the northwestern corner buildings:

Bobby dove off then circled his building 8 minutes after I first spotted him:

Sadie left her perch too but I didn’t see where she went.

Bobby returned to One Fifth a couple minutes later only to jump off again:

Both Hawk spent the next 9 minutes flying above and near Washington Square Park.

Bobby tucked into a dive and flew to the Con Edison building located outside Union Square Park:

Squirrels near me were busy preening, chasing each other around a tree, or otherwise bringing leaves to their own nests.

One of them was king of the tall eastern tree stump:

I had to run errands near Union Square Park so I got to see both Hawks circling and perched up there. I would have taken photos but my arms were full. It was refreshing though to watch them carry on without the stress of trying to get a decent shot of them!

  1. Oh, those pesky squirrels!
My vet assures me , they are the harbinger of fleas and it appears, the dear is indeed scratching at a bite.
My favorite pic is the little guy ,appearing to have a mouthful of leaves ,scurrying up the large tree to his warm nest. Spring renovations or perhaps a nest in preparation for his/her ,soon to be born, offspring.
    Spring is in the park!
