Update from April 2nd: A new Hawk has been spotted exploring the park since yesterday. Juno was seen at the same time so my source knows there were two Hawks in the park at the same time. The same source reported that these Hawks mated on the One Fifth Avenue building just before 5:00PM today. It’s not too late in the season for Juno and this new female to use the nest for their own eggs this year so there may be baby Hawks to watch this summer after all. There is still no word on whatever happened to Sadie however.

I have been flying and on the road all day today and first received word from Bobby Horvath of WINORR (Wildlife in Need of Rescue and Rehabilitation) that Sadie has been missing all day. I only just logged in to see everyone else’s messages and comments about it. I’ll not post the comments but I have read them all! Thank you for letting me know!
This news is heartbreaking but there may be a lead as to where she might be. Some of the NYU workers helped look for her thanks to a devoted Hawk-watcher’s contacting them. Bobby Horvath is also going to call an NYU contact tomorrow who may be able to lend a hand.
I cannot be there to help (I would absolutely be out there if I were in town) but I think I have put some of the best people in contact with each other.
If I receive any substantive updates on Sadie I will post it here.

Is Juno sitting on the nest?
Not for any extended time. The one report I got was that he was on the nest for a few seconds yesterday after she disappeared.
Oh, no! 😟 Sadie! I adore, love Sadie! This is awful! I am praying she is ok, maybe just spring giddiness! Dear Sadie, we need you!

Just an update, for what it’s worth. I was watching the nestcam at 7:49 est, and Juno brought sticks to the nest, curiously looked around, then flew off.

As uncertain as life is for us all, is there any substantial news as to what happened to Sadie? Or is it just unknown as to where she may be? Or what has happened?
This reminds me of when my now adult child had a cat who died and she sadly said in her 9 year old sorrow.

After Bobby went missing last year right after the eggs were hatched and she did a heroic job of raising all 3 successfully I thought I’d never watch this nest ever again
I came back because I’ve spent many years devoted to it and was so shocked and devastated when I got the heartbreaking news today
I thought the city was not supposed to put rat poison in the park
It is terrible however there’s no indication Sadie was poisoned. As far as I know her body hasn’t been found (if he has passed away). The park does not put poison in the park out of protection for the Hawks.
Sorry to be late, but do we know what happened to the three eggs Saddie had laid last month? Are they still in the nest? Might they be pushed out of the nest by other hawks to make room for new clutches? Or are old nests rarely re-used? Hypothetically speaking, could Saddie’s eggs have been adopted by another hawk? So many questions.
Roger, I am really sorry to hear about your retirement. You provided such a great service to wildlife enthusiasts, and probably inspired dozens of emerging birdwatchers in New York, myself included. Your webcam was an invaluable source of pleasure at work. You will be greatly missed, but we trust you’ll find new joy where you are.

Hi, Alexia. Sadie’s eggs have been unviable for a long time so they will eventually be destroyed and new eggs will get laid in the nest (but not necessarily in that order). My guess is Juno will keep and reuse the current nest with a new female if he stays in WSP.
I do not run the webcam and don’t have control of it (I am only providing an embedded version of it). The cam has gone dark between seasons before so it should get turned back eventually. I’ll keep linking to it as long as it exists.
