Because I’d seen one of the southeastern Red-tailed Hawks picking at terrace trees for nesting material a couple of days ago, I looked toward the same site while on my way to work this morning.
I was pleasantly shocked to see it sitting relaxed on the middle terrace tree:
The office building it sat upon is located on 5th Avenue between 57th & 58th Streets (a block south of the park).
Later in the day I had a look at the hawk’s nest to see how it was faring. It was a rainy day so I was especially curious to see how it was holding up under the inclement weather conditions.

It was looking a bit flattened and very wet. It’s not a great location for a nest and for birds of the hawks’ size so I do hope the hawks choose a better location for a brood this spring.
