At about 6:50AM, Bobby brought a rat to Rosie to feed to their firstborn.
Rosie got up and started to pick at the rat to feed the baby a morsel:
Her back was blocking the camera but she moved as though she were feeding the eyass (baby Red-tailed Hawk):
Rosie nestled in to warm the baby and the other egg. Bobby returned to the nest for a few minutes to check in on the family before leaving again:
This first feeding occurred around the same time Violet fed Pip for the first time last season. On May 7th, 2011 Pip had her first meal around 6:35AM.
This afternoon’s feeding was better in that we were able to then see the baby get food directly:
Meanwhile, the second egg is pipping. You can see the hole in the upper right-hand edge of the egg in the shot below:
