A fellow Hawk-watcher informed me that they had seen Rosie on one of the buildings outside the eastern side of Washington Square Park early this morning. Rosie was on NYU’s Silver Center purple flag pole for a few minutes before she flew southward.
The material Rosie and Bobby Hawk have been bringing to the Cable Building fire escape has shifted and there is a bit less of it there today. We had a couple of heavy rain storms (with gusty winds) over the last few days so some of the material probably blew away or fell through the fire escape’s flooring.
The material as it looked when I went birding today:
Here is the material today (left) in a side-by-side comparison with the material as it looked on August 28th:
I didn’t see either of the Hawks at first but I did spot a couple of charming squirrels in Washington Square Park eating native food (rather than peanut handouts):
I saw Rosie circling overhead when I was walking toward the fire escape again:
We were at Mercer Street between West 3rd and Bleecker Streets (where the red A is located) below. The southeast corner of Washington Square Park is seen in the upper part of the image, the Cable Building in the lower part where it says “Angelika Film Center & Cafe”:
She disappeared soon afterward. But it was nice to see her for all those 30 seconds.
Another Hawk-watcher let me know later in the day that they had seen both Bobby and Rosie at the fire escape after my visit which was great news since we know they are both accounted for.
