Distant Hawkery – January 15th, 2016

I saw aWashington Square Park Red-tailed Hawkon two occasions during my outing today but I am not sure which Hawk I saw (or if I had seen both separately) because of the distance between us.

I initially searched throughout the park for the Hawks but they were nowhere to be seen. I wasn’t too surprised because I was visiting around ‘the witching hour’ (when the Hawks leave the grounds and cavort elsewhere until later in the day).

Con Ed Tower Hawk, Washington Square Park walkabout – January 12th, 2016

I only saw one Red-tailed Hawk today, atop the Con Edison Building tower. A fellow Hawk-watcher informed me later that one of the Hawks was roosting at the Red Roost Inn this evening.

In all my years living in New York I never saw that workers used rope and wood ladders to descend into manholes:

Bobby’s glimmering night hunt – January 9th, 2016

Last night (the 9th) was the first time in a long time that I’ve visited Washington Square Park at dusk/night. I was curious about the nature of their night hunting routine these days.

Bobby was the first Hawk I spotted. He was on the Judson Memorial Church cross (Bobst Library to the left):
