A fellow Hawk-watcher saw Bobby deliver food to Sadie early this morning. He then flew eastward. I headed to Washington Square Park as soon as I could and got to see lots of Bobby Hawk action.
Bobby showed up 40 minutes after I and another friend arrived:
It was extremely windy and cold today so Bobby had to fight the gusts to land on One Fifth Avenue:
He settled low on his perch. He jumped off 10 minutes later and sped like a bullet toward something in the sky above the tree line:
It all happened so fast, I didn’t see when he flew to the nest. A fellow Hawk-watcher saw Bobby grab something before entering the nest. It was either a bird or paper.
I mention paper only because I saw Bobby fighting with some unruly newspaper in the nest seconds later:
He tried to tuck it back into the nest structure:
He left after a couple of minutes:
He snatched at a pigeon flock at the western side of the park but he missed catching anything.
A Blue Jay harassed him:
Closing his right eye protectively:
Back to the east side:
He settled down and sunned and preened:
It was too cold to stay so we left after another half hour.
Meanwhile, word on the street is that there are two eggs in the nest.
