Red-tailed Hawk landing on nest, Bobst Library, NYU, New York City

Flappy babies, parents keeping close guard – May 28th, 2018

Mama Sadie Hawk was on her purple NYU flag pole when I arrived at Washington Square Park today:

Bobby was seated below her flag pole:

A fellow Hawk-watcher saw them in these spots earlier in the day too.

Bobby looking in the general direction of the nest:

Scratch:

The babes were resting out of sight at first.

They then got up to do some flapping and exploring:

Bobby flew north out of the park but Sadie stayed on the flag pole the whole time.

Today is Memorial Day in the US. There were a few military jets circling the city and flying over the park (some if not all of the jets have been part of city Memorial Day observances).

It was a shame the sky was too overcast to get a nicer shot:

Sasaki Garden (located a block south of the park) is rich with beautiful flowers and plants. Recent rain provided for perfect conditions for new mushrooms:

  1. It may be silly, but I’m always afraid of the babes being so close to the edge. I found out how to comment!

  2. I love it also! We are like old friends by now following these hawks for years. Thank you for all you do!

  3. Thank you for all your photos. I have been following you for years and now that I am living in Oaris with no hawks around your photos are even more valuable!
