I was en route to Washington Square Park when I spotted a young Red-tailed Hawk sitting atop an apartment building in the Lower East Side of Manhattan:
It was quite relaxed:
I watched it for about 10 minutes before I carried on and went to the park.
A Red-bellied Woodpecker made itself obvious with its loud calls and big swoops from tree to tree:
I could only stay in the park for around half an hour and unfortunately did not see either of the resident Red-tailed Hawks in that time. A fellow Hawk-watcher has seen them both so we know they are around.
Young hawks are beauties also. Of course I always wish for them their own territory.
Thanks for giving us a glimpse before they leave. I love your photography
Thanks, Avel! It was pretty lucky spotting; I had paused to put my mittens on, happened to glance up and there he was!
