We have a second egg! Sadie laid her second egg of 2019 at 1:27PM today. I took Hawk cam footage of the laying and have posted it below.
The first moment you see the new egg in the video is at the 30 second mark.
She laid her first egg on March 15th. You can see footage of that laying on my YouTube channel here: https://youtu.be/rtcKmKwOghM
Bobby visited the nest and saw both eggs not long afterward.
This event seemed easier than the first egg, did it not?
But no less wonderful and exciting!
Thanks Roger_Paw for giving us the chance to peek into the delivery nest for this dear Hawk couple.
Yes! It took half (or more than half) as long to lay this second egg than the first one. And Sadie recovered much quicker afterward too. It’s all going so well so far. 🙂
The second egg looks very blue on my screen…so lovely!
Hi! Yeah, it did didn’t it. The shading from the building at the moment made all the colors look quite pretty.
By August 05, 2018 three Washington Square red-tailed hawks had left the park last year. We have until August to watch these new baby hawks grow and develop into gorgeous adult birds, and begin their life’s journey. We’re so lucky to see this saga begin again anew and we’ll be watching Bobby and Momma Sadie with eagerness and joy as they feed and care for their babies. The adventure has begun!!
It really is a fabulous cycle. Cheers!
She is such a graceful & patient mother, is she not? The gentle way she moves her babies/eggs in the nest shows how careful and caring she is. A beautiful sight to see.
Yes! She and Bobby are very tender with their eggs and young (especially during the earliest feedings). Thanks, Patricia!
Awwwwww…another egg is here! Lovely blue color to those eggs and she seems so proud. Cannot wait for the hatch! Great job capturing all this lovely nature happening in the most urban setting imaginable. It is funny to notice the people strolling around below not even aware of the awesome scene above them. So excited at this site. Also watching the Deccorah Eagles, my favorite time of year. Thanks for all the majesty!
Thanks, Elizabeth! I think the same about all those people with no clue. They’re missing out! 🙂 The blue tinge was due to the shadowing of the building at the time. Next time you check in on the cam you may get a glimpse of their off-white coloring in different lighting. Sounds like you are all set up with your nice cams for the season!
Thanks again Roger_Paw for bringing this miracle into my home! You are great and much appreciated.
Aw, thank you Mimi!!
Goooo, Sadie!!! ♡♡♡♡♡
So happy for Sadie and Bobby. I can’t help anthropomophising and feeling Sadie’s pride and anticipation. She’s lucky she doesn’t have to save for college!
Thank you Roger for giving us a glimpse into nature’s beauty.
