Hawks get chased by Mockingbirds – June 23rd, 2019

A Kestrel was sitting triumphantly on the building outside the northwest corner of Washington Square Park:

It may have been one of the Kestrels that dive-bombed Mama Sadie Hawk when she sat on that fleur-de-lis on June 17th.

Juno was sitting on One Fifth Avenue (the building just north of the park), as usual:

I headed over to 7th Avenue and 11th Street to look for Sadie and the fledgling.

There was construction going on at the building where I last saw the fledgling on June 19th so I figured there was no chance the Hawks would be hanging out there today:

I searched the area anyway and was pleasantly shocked to see Sadie fly low above the street. She was being chased by a Mockingbird:

I lost sight of her as she flew over the buildings. I was looking for her again when Juno flew overhead 15 minutes later:

He tucked into a dive and landed right on the same crane seen above:

He sat on the crane for about 25 seconds. I showed a picture of Juno on the crane to a couple of the guys working the site. They had no idea the Hawk visited them but seemed pretty excited about it. 🙂

Juno reappeared. Now he was being chased by a Mockingbird:

He flew far northeast; crossing 6th Avenue, 5th, and beyond.

I saw Sadie again as she circled high above before she too flew northeast. I did my best to look for the fledgling but had no luck. If he’s around, he’s probably still in that area northwest of the park considering how concentrated the adult Hawks were flying there.
