I found Juno and Sadie Hawk resting peacefully on separate perches this morning.
Juno was on the top of the One Fifth Avenue apartment building (which sits just north of the park):
Sadie was across the street from Juno, on a Two Fifth Avenue railing:
Here she is sitting behind the park arch pigeons:
Juno dove off his perch and flew further north 10 minutes after I first spotted him.
Sadie continued relaxing:
Hello?
The arch pigeons nervously flew in a bunch then returned to the arch a few times:
I couldn’t see what was spooking them though.
Sadie left her perch 20 minutes later. She circled just north of the park a few times then disappeared northward herself:
I scanned as many buildings as I could in the vicinity but the Hawks were nowhere to be found. My visit was lucky today though because I found them so shortly before they usually go off on their excursions away from the park.
Your scene looks cold and with some gusts of wind.
Thanks for the beautiful pictures.
I am slowly coming to realize, it is so wonderful to see Sadie w/ her mate ,living the life of a RTH
rather than alone and so vulnerable. Nature takes care of us all .
Happy holidays, Roger_Paw! We are blessed to have you following our hawks ,letting us know they are safe.
Yes, it was pretty chilly out. We were in the high 20s during my outing. I agree; I am happy for Sadie that she has a new mate to bond with. So far all signs are good that they will do as Hawks do and have babies next spring.
