Red-tailed Hawk landing on nest, Bobst Library, NYU, New York City

Lunch break with Southeastern Central Park hawk – March 12th, 2012

The Southeastern Central Park hawk who is nesting at the Crown Building made it easy for me to spot him when I entered Central Park’s Grand Army Plaza Monday.

I caught sight of it as it landed near the top of the 42-story Pierre Hotel, a building along Fifth Avenue at 61st Street:

It dove like a bullet to the park below (presumably to hunt):

I didn’t see it again for another several minutes until it resurfaced over Grand Army Plaza:

It scared up a couple of pigeon flocks. He’s below the third upper pigeon from the left:

Flat and slightly tilted bird near the center:

It disappeared out of sight behind the Plaza Hotel:

Not a bad few minutes of hawk-watching in the park.
