The older of the two Tompkins Square Park Red-tailed Hawk fledglings has been rescued for care. Devoted Hawk-watchers noticed the fledgling looking ill and contacted Park Rangers and WINORR (Wildlife in Need of Rescue and Rehabilitation) for help.
The fledgling’s test results revealed the presence of rodenticide. It is being treated now and will hopefully recover and be released back into Tompkins Square before too long.
You can read more about the situation in this Goggla post. She will provide more current updates on her site.
Fingers crossed that the little Hawk comes through ok and will returned home soon!
How upsetting to read this news..I am happy , it is not one of the WP hawks. but any animal “hurting” is concern for all.
The prognosis sounds dire, but fingers crossed and hoping to read of improvement in the little flying baby.
Sadly, the juvie has passed away.
Oh no, that’s terrible! Thank you for letting me know.
I will post an update with the new info. I just checked Goggla’s site for her update and will post her link.
I am so sad to hear this. Such a painful way to die. No animal should have to suffer. Fly forever free little one.
