Pip the red-tailed hawk hop-flapping – June 19 2011

Pip the red-tailed hawk chick is getting closer to flying off her nest’s window ledge for the first time. As you can see, her hops are getting higher and her wing flaps are getting stronger. She should have a great first flight if she continues to progress as she has been! She’s expected to be ready to fly her coop within the next couple of weeks. Footage I took June 19, 2011.

Can’t Quit the Hawks… :)

(Video of Violet below) I spent a couple of hours today taking snaps and video of Pip and Violet. Pip merrily practiced flapping and hopping or just sat around watching the bipeds in the park below. Violet stood guard from one of her favorite perches, a building along the East side of Washington Square Park. I took footage of Pip hopping today but won’t be able to edit and upload it until Friday. Sorry!

Yes, this large bird is Pip!
