We had a beautiful sunny day today and the Washington Square Park Hawks looked to be in fine form as they traded places on a couple of different perches.
A Hawk-watching friend first spotted Bobby on the One Fifth Avenue building.
I arrived to see him circling above the park before moving to the southwestern corner building:
Fluffing up, allowing his feathers to trap pockets of air to hold in body heat:
I checked on the Con Edison tower (located outside Union Square Park) and saw Sadie perched there:
Bobby flew off his perch after 14 minutes. He flew southwest of the park.
We started to go look for him but then I noticed Sadie had just taken his place!
Sadie perched for nearly 20 minutes before jumping off. She flew briefly with Bobby before the two separated with her flying eastward and Bobby landing on the corner of the building.
Bobby about to land on the corner:
Off the perch and flying to the fancy northwest building finial:
He would often look down into the park trees and lawns.
He left his perch after 10 minutes:
Looking down at the ground:
He circled a few times then flew way east:
Another 15 minutes passed before Sadie returned to the park and landed on the same building she and Bobby had been sharing all day:
Up top again, alert and watching the pigeons fly around:
It was now Bobby on the Con Ed building:
All seemed well so I left the park for the day.
Wow – knockout photos and blue sky too. Terrific!!!!
Thanks! I got a lucky break with the clear blue sky. Blue sky winter days are pretty great.
